Every year I see a fresh batch of trends hit the bridal world; ever inventive with exciting themes and fresh ideas.
One of my favorite recent trends is hosting candy-themed bars throughout the reception. Secretly, it’s because I am known for having a bit of a sweet tooth. But they are also phenomenal for setting a lighthearted mood for the event itself. You can choose sweet catchphrases to adorn the bar, and can also stock it according to you and your guests’ tastes. Whether you choose to coordinate by color, types of candy, or theme; your options are limitless with this trend.
The pantone colors are also tools which usually set the trends for the year. Surprisingly, this year’s color, marsala, a rich burgundy, is quite a departure from last year’s light and friendly lavender tone. With lavender as 2014’s color and 2013 a bright emerald, wedding themes were a bit more carefree. The light purple palette set a very organic overall tone with bridesmaids wearing dresses using light color palettes, ranging from champagne to blush, light purple or shades of grey. Although I usually am more inclined to a natural color palette, such a drastic change are definitely interesting to watch on and off the 2015 runways.
Along with color palettes, my natural inclination is to maintain an organic mood when it comes to floral combinations. Loose and natural florals such as peonies and lilies of the valley, as opposed to a more modern look have a way of adding an almost romantically ethereal element to the ceremony.
One trend that I hope is here to stay is using mercury glass as forms of decoration with florals, table settings and candle lighting. Using mercury glass creates a vintage accent that isn’t too overpowering or overdone. Mixing tones of glass from blush to gold was a way to make your event truly unique, and is also something that is surprisingly easy to create.
There is nothing more romantic that getting married near the beach; the salt air, warm breeze, and incredible sunsets are just a few of the reasons why. Unmatched venues with beautiful views are hard to come by, and the Bluffton-Hilton Head Island area has some of the world’s most prestigious, as well as under the radar. With the natural feel of the ocean breeze and the warm sand between your toes, a beach wedding is extremely simple to plan, and there is no need to worry about standing in uncomfortable shoes or getting grass stains on your wedding gown.
At The Beach House on Hilton Head Island, they offer many package options to create less stress for the bride. The beach is the perfect location to incorporate mercury glass with gold accents, because it adds color to your neutral theme, but isn’t over the top or flashy. Nothing beats a party on the beach to commemorate one of the biggest and best moments of your life.
If you’re looking for a more rustic, vintage feel, look no further than the Rose Hill Mansion in Bluffton. This gated community is the ideal place for a private reception, offering live oaks draped in Spanish moss, history preserved in its natural setting and unusually organic Southern beauty and charm. The Spanish moss hanging from the deep-rooted trees will be a perfect complement if you decide to incorporate the color marsala at all into your ceremony, Picture-perfect opportunities await you at this timeless location, where you and your guests will be whisked away into a time with less complications.
Whether or not you decide to incorporate any of these new trends into your big day, what’s most important is that you find what fits with what you and your partner have in mind. It should always feel like you’re planning your day, and not someone else’s. Find what makes you both happy, and know that no day is perfect without a few hitches along the way.
