There’s no doubt that planning a wedding can be stressful, but that’s where wedding planners come in to the picture. More often than not I’ll come into the planning process after the bride has spent a significant amount of time online or on Pinterest and has become overwhelmed. The number one thing that I would advise newly engaged brides is not to become frustrated over the lack of consistency with decorating ideas they are drawn to.
Many brides come to me with a scattered collection of ideas that don’t appear to have any cohesive elements but good wedding planners can decipher the differences to find the similarities to plan your dream wedding. For instance, you may decide that you’d like your ceremony to take place in a square in downtown Savannah but you’re in love with the idea of experiencing beach feeling in Sea Pines Resort. I’m able to see through the two scenarios and realize that perhaps your true desire is to be outdoors where you can feel the sea breeze under the trees in Palmetto Bluff.
Some brides overwhelm themselves and shut down their initial ideas to try to find images that are all the same. But it’s okay to like fifteen different styles because I can see the similarities between them. Together we can create a new style, so I say pin away!
I once had a bride who initially wanted a pumpkin themed wedding for fall in our first meeting and changed her mind to a pink wedding by the time we were done, so try not to shut down any of your ideas too quickly. I think the first thing brides do after getting engaged is try dresses on and sometimes you go in with a preconceived notion of what’s going to look good on you. This is the one time in your life you’re ever going to have the opportunity to try on a wedding dress, so I say go in and try on every style. Try on a mermaid cut, a strapless gown, experiment with lace and satin, because you have nothing to lose! You might find one that you never would have thought would look good. And it’ll look far better than what was in your head. Change it up, and don’t go in thinking you’re going to find your dress like people do on TV shows within 3 dresses, because you’re not. I think that every bride should book appointments with at least two different dress shops with the most important ladies in your life over the weekend and have fun with it. There are so many unique bridal shops for bridal parties to explore throughout Hilton Head Island and downtown Savannah. Taking a trip with your best friends and family members to enjoy the Lowcountry is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
There are a lot of beautiful things out there that contribute to the wedding because every couple is different. It’s the collection of family and friends and the dynamic of each that makes every wedding unique.
