With another New York Fashion Week in full swing, I thought it might be fun to see the most impactful inspiration from 2016’s Bridal Fashion Week. Designers stayed classic, and added an edge with contemporary pieces like feathers and 3-D florals. All of these trends are fashionable, yet wearable; and I’m continuing to see their influence even in my most recent weddings.
1) Dramatic Necklines
High-neck styles and deep-V’s were equally popular on the runway this year. The V’s weren’t so dramatic as the plunge, but neither were they as conservative as a sweetheart. Lace and embellishment gave this trend a little extra drama.
2) Color
The more I see color on a bride, the more I love it. From shades of blush and rose to shades of lavender and lilac, I love the way a bride can be uniquely her own on her most special day by being a little non-traditional.
3) Feathers
Zac Posen and Jenny Packham both used feathers in their designs, adding both playfulness and texture. I love this idea for a winter wedding, it adds a little warmth and whimsy, without being too out there.
4) 3-D Florals
Florals were done in a way that made them otherworldly and ethereal. This trend is great for spring and summer brides, looking for a dress that is extremely unique, while still being timeless.
5) Illusion
With even deeper necklines and mesmerizing floral appliques, illusion bodices were all the rage. Monique Lhullier did it best with a sheer bodice, using floral embellishments and a tulle skirt, adding a feeling of femininity.
