“Something borrowed and something blue” have been an essential aspect of weddings since we can all remember. Coming up with something creative can be difficult, especially if you’re trying to be unique. Here are some of my favorite ways to see brides use these two traditions, in unforgettable ways.
Something Blue:
- Blue Shoes
Think Carrie Bradshaw. A gorgeous pair of navy, or even royal blue, pumps are the perfect touch of blue, and will only be seen if you want them to be.
- Blue Sash
A ribbon around your dress is a fresh way to add a little pop of color. A light, sky blue is a great way to do this, without being too bold.
- Sapphires
Rather than simple clear diamonds, add a little elegance with a sapphire drop earring. Or, choose a wedding band that emphasizes the blue sapphire stone, this way you’ll keep the good luck with you even after your wedding day. Not only are these stones gorgeous, but the deep blue color is flattering on every complexion.
Something Old:
- Lace from mother’s wedding dress
Incorporating pieces from your mother’s wedding dress into your own dress, your bouquet, or even creating handkerchiefs from the original lace is a great way for her to feel involved in your big day.
- Old family recipe to give to guests
If your family has an abundance of old family recipes, fill out cards for your guests to take home as gifts, using the same calligraphy as your invitations.
- Use your parents’ wedding portrait as decoration
Displaying your parents’ wedding portrait for all of your guests to see is both heartfelt and provides inspiration. You can even recreate one of their more traditional poses for your own wedding album.
