Every bride wants her wedding day to be flawless. We plan every last detail and down to every single moment. I have noticed that there are a few common elements that tend to go awry more often than others. Though it may be impossible to completely avoid wedding day hiccups, there are definitely ways to avoid multiple disasters.
I’ve found that one of the most difficult things to coordinate can be the band or live entertainment chosen to perform during your reception. Due to their naturally free-spirited personalities bands can sometimes find it hard to follow a schedule of events. One of the ways that I have learned to avoid this is by building a relationship with the band manger to ensure that there will be as little miscommunication as possible before and during the ceremony. I always make sure that I am prepared with extra copies of schedules, scripts, lineups, etc. Booking your band early will allow you to become comfortable with who they are and build a relationship.
A rainy forecast during an outside wedding ceremony can easily be called a bride’s worst nightmare. Though it may be impossible to predict the weather forecast months in advance, there are some things you can do to be prepared in case Mother Nature decides to intervene on your big day. I can recall one particular outside reception I had planned. Just before the ceremony our venue witnessed a torrential downpour without any notice from the weatherman and I wound up on my hands and knees drying the wood floors. Though I had originally arranged for tents to shade guests from the sun, they turned out to be of great assistance in preventing even more rain from damaging decorations and table settings. Although guests got a little wet while moving from the ceremony to the party, they were thrilled with the way the tents made the outdoor venue appear more intimate.
The simplest way to avoid most disastrous situations on your big day is to find a venue that is dedicated to finding resourceful solutions. There are many wedding venues in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area but one of my favorites has to be Belfair Plantation. From an intimate gathering to an elaborate event, Belfair’s dreamlike atmosphere is the perfect setting. Some of their offerings include custom banquet designs, world-class catering, intimate indoor and outdoor venues, and of course, incredible views. Another simple solution to avoiding mishaps is to hire an experienced wedding coordinator. There are many brides who feel like they want to execute every detail of their wedding; but believe me, there is nothing that you will appreciate more in the long run than having an experienced planner behind you to finalize your big day while you sit back and experience every moment of your big day.
What I like to remember when families and members of the bridal party are becoming frazzled is that there is a solution to everything. When people get caught up in the weather or late band members it’s important to remember that the small things have no effect when it comes to the big picture. The one thing that I like to remind brides when unforeseen disasters occur is to remember why it is you’re getting married. If you can keep that in mind, nothing will stand in the way of your happiness on your big day.
